This buoy tender was built in 1905 at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg in Kiel. First stationed in Sonderburg, Bussard was deployed in the Western Baltic Sea. 1919 the ship was moved to Kiel and served as supply ship for the Lightvessel Fehmarnbelt.
In September 2005 the association 'Dampfer Bussard e.V.' was founded and since then has taken care of the ship which is still in service. Today the Bussard is a museum ship and is allowed to take up to 50 passengers aboard.
