S.M.S. Von der Tann was launched March 20th, 1909 and commissioned September 1st, 1910. During trials she reached a top speed of 28.124 knots. Therefore she was considered the fastest capital ship of the world for a while.
On September 28th, 1911 Von der Tann replaced S.M.S. Bluecher as flagship of the reconnaissance fleet.
