In 1958 Bleichen was built at Nobiskrug shipyard in Rendsburg. She was the fourth and last ship in a very successful series of general cargo freighters built by this shipyard for the shipping company Gehrckens. The deck house was in the medium and the engine aft.
The foundation Hamburg Maritim saved the Bleichen from scrapping in 2007 and today she can be visited in Hamburg as a museum ship. Bleichen still runs and occasionally appears at maritime events in German harbors.
